Talk:goblet drum

I'm not sure why not sure why this was describing just one type of goblet drum (as does Wikipedia), it's a general class of drums, outside of wikiworld the djembe is better known than the darbuka anyway. If you look on google books, the top result is for a Thai drum, not the darbuka, which isn't even in the top ten. I've made a second def line for the darbuka definition, though I'm not sure it should be here. The only reason I didn't remove it completely is because the translations clearly go with that, most of them should go to darbuka but some like they are really translations of goblet drum, and one looks like a translation of djembe, so that is messy. darbuka directs translations to goblet drum for some reason. See Talk:goblet drum. Both Wiktionary and Wikipedia have, for some time, described "goblet drum" as though it is a synonym for the darbuka, which is one type of goblet drum. "Goblet drum" is a musicological term, there are lots of goblet-shaped drums. goblet drum does not mean darbuka any more than flat-backed lute means guitar. So I've added a better def at goblet drum, but the translations appear to mostly be translations of darbuka, not goblet drum. Some are not. Can someone who knows more about the applicable languages move most of the translations to darbuka? WurdSnatcher (talk) 16:39, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Since this is just about the translations, I've changed the templates to -check and added a comment to each about whether the translations should be moved. That seems to fulfill this request, so I'm closing this. — surjection??18:14, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
