CAL says the Classical Syriac word ܓܘܕܐ (guddā) is "surely a Semitic word". --Z 14:57, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
- Sokoloff in DJBA 269f referring to "Geig AAC" 126 says it is impossible to decide if the word is Semitic of Persian. The book referred to by CAL is available to me only in these snippets. Without having these works at hand, we cannot give a good treatment of etymology. --Vahag (talk) 15:44, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
