I've found various sources (American Heritage Dictionary, 1973, for one) that say the French gerfaucon comes from Old Norse geirfalki. Is this etymology discredited in some fashion? or merely not well supported? 70.178.165.154 00:53, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- I dont know how likely a direct borrowing from Old Norse into French would be. They could be cognates without this being a direct borrowing; falcon is already listed as being from Germanic. —Soap— 12:06, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
