The etymology rightfully should describe how the expression's first "hear" relates to calling attention (more specifically, "hearken;" the second "hear" relates to sympathizing with or heeding what was heard. Consequently, the sense should provide: "Let us hear and applaud heed and/or sympathize with [what] the previous speaker [said]." --Kent Dominic (talk) 15:54, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
