Severe etymological problems
edit- Using words like "some say" and "some refer" is no basis for a solid etymology. Who are these that say this, where are the direct citations? The second one is from Lewis and Short, which was published so long ago as to use Sanskrit as a proxy for what we now understand as Proto-Indo-European.
- The etymology is contradicted by more up-to-date etymological sources, in this case M. de Vaan's Etymological Dictionary of Latin and the Other Italic Languages (2008)
- While the first etymology seems to derive from de Vaan's, the source does not mention "enclitical weakening" of "some form of agitur".
Per the above, I'll be changing the etymology to reflect the entry in de Vaan's dictionary. Kneelian (talk) 15:05, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
