If "noise can impinge on the eardrum" is transitive, then how is "scarcity impinges on your mind" intransitive? It seems that, with either definition, "impinge" requires (or else seems to generally take) a prepositional phrase as an object. The disconnect there might be fine but for the discussion after the definitions stating that "the transitive use is less common," which I'm not sure how to interpret.

I'm sure there's a very good reason for all this, but it hasn't been explained very well in the entry, yet. Renaissance Jack (talk) 15:33, 20 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
