Charles Fitzhugh Talman's 1922 Meteorology: The Science of the Atmosphere, page 380, says "Qobar. — A dry fog or heat haze of the upper Nile region. (Also spelled kobar and gobar and occasionally applied to a hazy condition of the atmosphere in other parts of the world.)" But I cannot find sufficient evidence yet of either of those alt spellings. - -sche (discuss) 17:49, 11 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wolf Leslau's Comparative Dictionary of Geʻez says Tigre has a related word qobar "darkening of the air". Dorothea McEwan's Story of Däräsge Maryam says this fog, equated with Höhenrauch, is called täga in Tigrinya and zegag and t'egag in Amharinya, when "the atmosphere is hazy and gloomy after grass fires and the smoke rises high and leaves the air whitish grey". - -sche (discuss) 20:50, 11 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
