Development of the "brainstorming" sense

To a person unfamiliar with the term, it is hard to see how "throwing a baseball moist with spittle" becomes "brainstorming ideas", i.e. how one sense lends itself into being transformed into the other. I think it would be nice if the entry had some supporting information in this regard.
