How far

edit

My question is for the words 'downstream' and 'upstream'. The meanings are clear but how far is down or up stream? —This unsigned comment was added by 203.2.32.27 (talkcontribs) .

The words "upstream" and "downstream" do not carry with them any connotation of distance, so one millimeter upstream is still upstream. Rod (A. Smith) 18:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Upstream projects" in free software development

edit

See this Definition of “upstream”, that corresponds to the quite frequent use of this word in the context of free software projects.--QuimGil (talk) 16:16, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

User:QuimGil: Added an adjective sense. Could probably also add a noun sense, as people often speak of "the upstream". Try mining Usenet for citations. Quite fun. Keφr 18:16, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
