Talk:walkover

What would it mean, lose or win, if a team is walkover? — This comment was unsigned.

"We walked all over that team" means we dealt the other team a crushing defeat. The connotation is that not only was the defeat complete, but also that the winning team didn't even have to try hard to do it - only gave up points so the losing team wouldn't feel bad. --Connel MacKenzie 02:18, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
That said, I've never heard this form. Perhaps it is common in the UK or Australia or India? --Connel MacKenzie 02:19, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Horse race with only one entrant edit

Chambers 1908 says "a race where one competitor appears, who has to cover the course to be entitled to the prize" -- so perhaps not just horses? Equinox 19:31, 22 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
