Note that wurst, which ultimately comes from a sense “turn, twist”, is unrelated to the superficially similar worsted ‎(type of yarn), which one might guess comes from the same root (sounds similar, yarn long and produced by twisting, perhaps similarly to a sausage), but is instead from a place name.
