Borrowed from Russian Ташкент (Taškent), from Uzbek Toshkent, from Chagatai تاشکند (taškänd), compound of tosh (stone) + Old Turkic [script needed] (kend, city) (compare Turkish kent), the latter borrowed from Sogdian [Term?] (/⁠kand⁠/, city).
