Documentation for Template:R:Australian National Dictionary. [edit]
This page contains usage information, categories, interwiki links and other content describing the template.

Usage edit

This template may be used in the "References" and "Further reading" sections of entries and on talk pages to provide a citation to The Australian National Dictionary (1st edition, 1988). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the Dictionary, though it is currently not possible to link to a specific entry.

Parameters edit

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |entry= – the entry in the Dictionary cited. If not specified, the name of the Wiktionary entry is used.
  • |part of speech= or |pos= – the part of speech of the entry. By default, the template italicizes the value assigned to the parameter and adds a full stop (period) to the end. To turn off the default formatting for the purpose of specifying a different formatting using wikitext markup and templates, for example: |part of speech=''n.''{{sup|1}}, specify |noformat=1 or |noformat=yes: see the example below.
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages= – the page number(s) of the print version of the Dictionary on which the entry appears. When quoting a range of pages, separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
  • |column=, or |columns= – the column number(s) of the print version of the Dictionary cited. When quoting a range of columns, separate the columns of the range with an en dash, like this: |columns=1–2.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage quoted from the Dictionary.
  • |nodot= – by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1 or |nodot=yes.
