Usage

This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections of Wiktionary entries, and on talk pages, to provide a citation to The Oxford Hindi-English Dictionary by Ronald Stuart McGregor from Oxford University Press, a digitized version of the dictionary available on the Digital South Asia Library.

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |head= or |hw= - the headword. If the parameter is not specifed, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.
• |page= - to show all the entries on a particular page of the dictionary. This parameter displays the pagename with the page number in bracket, while linking only to the page number. Even if the headword parameter is specified, it will be used only for displaying (with the page number beside it in a bracket), while linking to the particular page number rather than searching for the headword (see the examples below). In most cases, this parameter is not needed and searching alone be headword is sufficient. This parameter is useful, and should be used, when you encounter errors due to nuqta.
• |pages= or |1=- the page(s) to be cited in the dictionary.
• |passage= - a passage quoted from the dictionary.
• |nohw= - parameter for searching for the word not in the headwords, in case the word is under the entry of the word it has derived from. Note that, this works only if the word to be searched is in Devanagari script.
• |disp= - for showing a different word while searching for a different head word in the dictionary.

Errors

The digitized version of McGregor has Unicode bugs (they use nuqta modifier and nuqta-combined letters interchangeable) and does not correctly link to some words/entries with nuqtas [results in a 'not-found' error] (check if it links correctly). To cite the reference for such entries specify the transliteration of the word in the head parameter of the template, i. e., for अज़ीज़ use {{R:hi:McGregor|head=azīz}}.
