Usage

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote from a collection of Isaac Barrow's religious works entitled The Works of Dr. Isaac Barrow (1830–1831, 7 volumes). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at the Internet Archive:

Volume I (contents: memoir; sermons). Volume II (contents: sermons).

Volume III (contents: sermons). Volume IV (contents: sermons). Volume V (contents: sermons on the Apostles' Creed).

Volume VI (contents: sermons and writings on the Apostles' Creed). Volume VII (contents: religious writings).

If a specific quotation template for a particular title exists, use it instead of this template.

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

• |1= or |volume= – mandatory: the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, from |volume=I to |volume=VII.
• |chapter= – if quoting from a title other than a sermon, use this parameter to specify the name of the title quoted from. If quoting from one of the titles indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:

• |subchapter= – the name of the subchapter quoted from.
• |2= or |sermon=, and |sermonname= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from one of the sermons, use |1= or |sermon= to specify the sermon number in uppercase Roman numerals, and |sermonname= to specify the name of the sermon.
• |summary= – each sermon or title is preceded by a summary written by Thomas Smart Hughes. If quoting from one of these summaries, specify |summary=1 which will add the words "Summary of" before the sermon number. To alter the default wording, do so like this: |summary=Summary of an.
• |3= or |page=, or |pages= – mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from in Arabic or lowercase Roman numerals, as the case may be. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
  • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11 or |x–xi=.
  • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).

You must specify this information to have the template determine, in some cases, the title quoted from, and to link to an online version of the work.

• |4=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
• |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
