Documentation for Template:RQ:Dryden Maiden Queen. [edit]
This page contains usage information, categories, interwiki links and other content describing the template.

Usage

edit

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from John Dryden's work Secret-Love, or The Maiden-Queen, more commonly known as The Maiden Queen (1669); the 1st edition (London: [] Henry Herringman, [], 1668; →OCLC) is not currently available online. The template can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters

edit

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |chapter= – if quoting from a part of the work other than the play as indicated in the second column of the following table, use this parameter to specify the name of the part as indicated in the first column:
Parameter value Result
Preface Preface
Prologue Prologue
Second Prologue Second Prologue
Epilogue Epilogue. Written by a Person of Honour.
The above parts of the work are not paginated, but |page= can be used to specify the "page number" that the Internet Archive has assigned to the URL of the webpage to be quoted from. Thus, if the URL is |url=https://archive.org/details/secretloveormaid00dryd/page/n7/mode/1up, specify |page=7. This information must be specified to have the template link to the online version of the work. (Although the prologue is also unpaginated, the template can determine the webpage to link to.)
  • |stanza= – the prologue is divided into six stanzas. Use this parameter to specify the stanza number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, from |stanza=I to |stanza=VI.
  • |act=mandatory in some cases: in most cases the template will determine the act number quoted from, as shown below. However, if page 14, 22, 34, or 50 is quoted from, the act number must be manually specified in uppercase Roman numerals, like this: |act=I.
Act I
(pages 1–14)
Act II
(pages 14–22)
Act III
(pages 22–34)
Act IV
(page 34–50)
Act V
(pages 50–66)
  • |1= or |scene=mandatory: the scene number in lowercase Roman numerals.
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory: the page or range of pages quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last page numbers of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the act number {I–V) quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.

Examples
