This template is used to denote and categorize Indo-Aryan pleonastic suffixes (also called extensions) in the etymologies of post-OIA stage languages. These suffixes have been studied in Indo-Aryan linguistics, and are listed in Turner's {{R:CDIAL}}
and many grammars of Middle Indo-Aryan. They appear to have little semantic content of their own; rather, they serve to disambiguate terms that have collapsed into one following sound changes from OIA to MIA.
The template take language code for its first argument, and any number of following arguments for suffixes. These arguments can be either in Brahmi script or following MOD:typing-aids's system for Latin to Brahmi (they will be automatically converted). These link to entries in Ashokan Prakrit for those suffixes. Categories are also added, e.g. Category:Hindi terms extended with Indo-Aryan -𑀟-.
Use the Ashokan Prakrit (or Early MIA) stage for reconstructing these suffixes; e.g.
- Ashokan Prakrit -𑀓- (-ka-) not later Maharastri Prakrit -𑀅- (-a-) or Sauraseni Prakrit -𑀕- (-ga-)
