Aorist form

The conjugation table claims to show aorist forms of verbs, but to my knowledge no such form exists in modern Persian. My grammar doesn't mention it, and I can't find any references on Google supporting it either. HannesP (talk) 09:50, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

• I, too, cannot find any reference to aorist forms in my English-language grammars of contemporary Persian (though, none of these grammars look to be especially good...) The newest one that does is Lee's A Grammar of the Persian Language (1828). I wonder if there is anything else that needs closer examination, given this. I cannot as of yet fully read the script; I am in the beginning stages of considering learning, so, I will defer to really anyone, but I'd like an explanation. I will note that the pages on Wikipedia for w:Persian grammar and more specifically w:Middle Persian to me seem like they could do with some expansion, clarification, etc. On the face of it, I wonder too at the grammar section on w:Old Persian - the verb section is rather short, I suspect there is more that can and should be said in an encyclopedic entry. English glosses

subjunctive for verbs starting with vowel

My suspicion is that the subjunctive prefix be- turns into biy- before a vowel. See the wiktionary page for âmadan (آمدن) which has biyâyam. The 'Persian verb conjugator' (https://www.jahanshiri.ir/pvc/en/) also gives biy- for verbs like âmuxtan and âwardan. Exarchus (talk) 15:36, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
