Description

Simple template for use in the ===Etymology=== section of the very many [noun] + する compound verbs in Japanese.

Usage

Four parameters:

• {{{1}}} or {{{ja}}} (required) - The base noun, in kanji if it has them, or in hiragana or katakana otherwise.
• {{{2}}} or {{{kana}}} (optional) - Hiragana for the base noun. Do not use for base nouns already written in hiragana.
• {{{3}}} or {{{rom}}} (required) - Romaji for the base noun.
• {{{4}}} or {{{en}}} (required) - The English gloss for the base noun. Can be straight text, or wikilinked text.
• {{{sort}}} (optional) - The sort key for the base noun. If omitted, the entry is sorted according to the {{{kana}}} value, or the {{{ja}}} value if that is missing too.

  Similar to {{{hidx}}} in the Japanese part-of-speech templates; only use if the first character in {{{kana}}} begins with a 濁音 (a two-dot or ten-ten kana) or with a 半濁音 (a circle or maru kana). If two-dot, follow the word with one apostrophe ('); if circle, with two (''). This makes sure that entries are sorted properly in Category:Japanese compound words.

  If the {{{kana}}} value does not start with a two-dot or circle kana, then don't use the {{{sort}}} parameter.
