Wiktionary editing cribnotes
edit- For non-native language definitions, preferably use a gloss -- a one-shot equivalence, eg "Ausfahrt: exit"
- ...unless, of course, the word has no equivalent in the target language.
- For native language definitions, a full definition is needed; see the Entry layout and Style guides.
No template
edit# Definition #: ''Example sentence.'' #:: Transliteration (only if needed). #:: Translated sentence.
Short form:
# Definition #: {{ux|en|Example sentence in English, with '''defined term''' in bold.}} #: {{ux|fr|Example sentence in French.|Translated sentence.}}
Long forms:
# Definition #: {{ux|fr|Example sentence.|t=Translated sentence.}}
# Definition #: {{ux|fr|Example sentence.|tr=Transliteration.|t=Translated sentence.}}
Other useful args
- |t= -- |translation=
- |tr= -- |transliteration=
- |lit= => literal translation.
{{uxi}}
is the same, but for short examples, such that both example and translation probably fit on a single line.
For same-language definitions (eg English in English wiktionary), leave the language code in, but leave the translation out.
Finally, to request an example sentence:
# A definition missing a usage example. #: {{rfex|en}}
