Background for "cognotype"
I am looking for a word or phrase which takes into account everything in the individual mind, from instinct to culture and personality but not including our conscious reasoning, which I see as a separable phenomenon because it is the only factor which is conscious.
We readily notice the contradiction between intellect and instinct (and give one of them the misleading name cerebral, as though instincts deserved to be found in the foot) but we have maybe not seen useful to describe another distinction, that between our consciousness and the principal factors that underlie it - genes and culture. The word "mindset" on its own does not make this distinction, even though it suggests it. Any comments welcome.
