Taxonomic name derivations

edit

taxonomic names above the rank of genus are often officially required to be from genus names. OTOH very many genus names are derived from Greek or Latin words. Also many higher-ranked taxa Some genus names are derived from other genus names. See Daphne#Derived terms. Where they exist, we try to show immediate morphological derivations within the same "language". We lack entries for many prefixes used in taxonomic names, eg, chamae-, used in the derivation of, for example, Chamaedaphne. DCDuring (talk) 14:10, 19 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
