Etymology

edit

Inherited from Early Medieval Latin Vaucella, diminutive formed with -ella of Latin *Vauca, metathesized from Vacua (Vouga).[1] The usage of the diminutive designates a tributary river, now known as Zela.

The analysis of Vouzela as Vouga +‎ Zela is folk etymology.
