Etymology edit
Inherited from Medieval Latin Vaucella, diminutive formed with -ella of Latin *Vauca, metathesized from Vacua (“Vouga”).[1] The usage of the diminutive designates a tributary river, now known as Zela.
The analysis of Vouzela as Vouga + Zela is folk etymology.
