Welsh edit

Etymology edit

From abad (abbot) +‎ (house). Phonetically unlikely to be a direct descendant of Latin abbatīa (which would give a form like *abeidi), but probably influenced by it.[1]

Pronunciation edit

Noun edit

abaty m (plural abatai)

  1. abbey[2]

Mutation edit

Welsh mutation
radical soft nasal h-prothesis
abaty unchanged unchanged habaty
Note: Some of these forms may be hypothetical. Not every possible mutated form of every word actually occurs.
