From àjàò (“anomalure, flying squirrel”) +‎ à- (“nominalizing prefix”) +‎ jọ (“to resemble”) +‎ ọ̀sọ́n (“afternoon”), literally “The flying squirrel that resembles the bright/orangeness of the afternoon”, named so because of its orange skin and belly
