Tocharian BEdit

EtymologyEdit

From Proto-Tocharian *āknātsā, probably corresponding to a Proto-Indo-European root *ṇ-ǵnō-tyḤ < *ṇ-ǵneh₃-to-, *ṇ-ǵneh₃-tih₂, from *ǵneh₃-(know), deriving its meaning from that of "ignorant". Compare Sanskrit अज्ञात(ájñāta) ("unknown"), Latin ignotus(unknown, also ignorant), Ancient Greek ἄγνωτος(ágnōtos, unknown, also ignorant). Compare Tocharian A āknats.
