editSaid by Hayami-Allen to be from N- (nominalizer) + fela (“to open”), with reduplication, possibly as that which opens the sky. Likely cognate with Sahu ḇelanga (“lightning”). However, also compare Proto-Trans-New Guinea *(mb,m)elak (“lightning, light”).
