From boru (“pipe”) + -zan ((from Persian) one who plays something)[1][2] from Ottoman Turkish بورو (boru, “a pipe, tube, horn, trumpet, empty talk, nonsense”),[3] from Proto-Turkic *burgu (“trumpet, pipe (of a plant)”),[4] from Proto-Turkic *bür- or *bur- (“to twist, to wring”).[5]
