RomanianEdit

EtymologyEdit

Uncertain. Possibly a substratum word of Dacian and ultimately Indo-European origin, related to Albanian sorrë, or borrowed from it; compare Aromanian cioarã, tsoarã. Also seemingly related to several Italian dialect cognates, compare Friulian çore, Calabrian ciola, Neapolitan ciàula, Sicilian ciaula and Tarantino ciola.[1]
