delthyrium (plural delthyria)

  1. (zoology) The opening between the beak and the hinge in certain brachiopods, through which the pedicle passes.
    • 1908, George Herbert Girty, The Guadalupian fauna, page 208:
      In the present species the two plates are directed, not toward the margin of the delthyrium, from which at the hinge line the cardinal teeth presumably project, but to the oblique intersecting line.
