deoxidation (countable and uncountable, plural deoxidations)

(chemistry) The process of extracting the oxygen content of a dissolved oxide, or of removing dissolved oxygen, with the aid of a reducing agent.

  When [Henry Cavendish] commenced those researches, he found an opinion prevailing, that the production of fixed air, or carbonic acid, is the invariable result of what he called the phlogistication, and we should call the deoxidation, of atmospheric air.
