doll's eye

  1. (aviation, often attributive) A magnetic indicator in the cockpit that turns white in the event of a problem.
    • 1996, North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Advisory Group for Aeronautical Research and Development, AGARDograph, volume 286, page 58:
      A standard NGL flow sensor at the inlet to the pressure demand regulator operated a doll's eye indicator []
    • 2006, Brian Mercer, Black Arrow Blue Diamond:
      Eric Bennett showed me around the cockpit and off I went on a familiarization flight and I was very impressed. [] On the right-hand side of the cockpit were two switches and two 'doll's eye' indicators.
    • 2012, Rowland White, Vulcan 607, page 419:
