      The words "straight-hinged" or "straight-backed" are not fully adequate as diagnostic terms, as the former term can be applied to hinges in representatives of most major ostracode groups and the latter is inadequate for many dorsate ostracodes with a straight, long hinge.
    • 1986, Vichuda Nithiuthai, “Taxonomic Study on the Larvae of Armyworms in the Genus Spodoptera (Lepidoptera : Noctuidae) in Thailand”, in Thai Journal of Agricultural Science, volume 19, page 132:
      Spiracles elongate oval, peritremes black, spiracle 1 and 8 greater than the others, spiracle 8 more dorsate than the others.
