From ehedeg (“to fly”) + -ydd (“-er”), from Middle Welsh ehedec, from Proto-Celtic *ɸeteti, from Proto-Indo-European *péth₂eti (“to fly”). Cognate with Middle Breton ehuedez and Old Cornish evidit.
