Etymology edit

Borrowed from French élasticité, from Ancient Greek ἐλαστός (elastós, ductile, flexible), related to ἐλαύνω (elaúnō, to strike, beat out), itself of uncertain origin. Equivalent to elastisch +‎ -iteit.
