Luxembourgish edit

Etymology edit

From Middle High German enbern, from Old High German inberan. Equivalent to ent- +‎ obsolete *bieren, an obsolete verb ultimately from the root of gebären (to give birth).

Historically either derived with this prefix or rather from a reinterpretation of Old High German ni beran (not to carry). Cognate with German entbehren, Dutch ontberen.
