editInherited from Ottoman Turkish گورلدی (gürüldü, gürültü, “loud noise of any kind”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish گور (gür, “onomatopoeic word for gurgling, rumbling or thunder noise”),[2] morphologically gür + -ül + -tü. Cognate with Turkmen gürrüldi (“noise”).
