Competing etymologies. Possibly:
- from Proto-Albanian *ganda, close to Lithuanian gañdas (“rumor”), gañdinti (“to frighten”), Latvian gañdêt (“to spoil”),[1]
- identical with ganë, participle of gas, ngas.[2]
