gorgelet (plural gorgelets)

  1. (zoology) A small gorget of a bird.
    • 1831, John James Audubon, Ornithological Biography, volume 2, The Canada Flycatcher:
      The head mottled with brownish-black; spots of the same colour, descending in a line from the lower mandible to the upper part of the breast, forming an interrupted gorgelet.
  2. A small gorge.
    • 2000, Lewis S. Keizer, Eugene E. Whitworth, Astral Man to Cosmic Christ:
      It seemed to be warmer here at nights than farther upriver, probably because of the southern exposure through the nine gorgelets leading to the South rim.
