GermanEdit

EtymologyEdit

Short for grüß dich Gott, from grüß (subjunctive form of grüßen, from Middle High German grüezen) "greet" + dich + Gott; in the context, "greeting" should be understood as giving a sign of connectedness; hence, the meaning is very similar to "may God bless you".[1]

InterjectionEdit

grüß Gott

  1. (southern Germany, Austria) Hello.
