Etymology

edit

Probably from a derivative of Late Latin grunnium (snout) (cf. Latin grunniō, grunnīre (grunt like a pig)), with the Aromanian suffix -escu. Perhaps from the variant form grunjedz, grunjari, from a Vulgar Latin *gruniāre. Alternatively, of onomatopoetic origin.

Verb
