Icelandic
editEtymology
editFrom Old Norse hýrr, from Proto-Germanic *hiurijaz, *gahiurijaz, perhaps derived with a locative suffix *-r- from the stem *hiw- (compare Icelandic hjú, hjón and hýbýli), then originally denoting a connection to the home and family with the connotation of happiness and comfort as among one's loved ones.
