Etymology edit
Either of the following:
- Borrowed from English hypochondria, from New Latin hypochondria.
- Borrowed from Spanish hipocondría, influenced by the pronunciation of English hypochondria, from Medieval Latin hypochondria, from Late Latin hypochondria.
Both routes come from the plural of Latin hypochondrium, from Ancient Greek ὑποχόνδριον (hupokhóndrion).
