Etymology edit

From Middle High German heimuote, heimüete, from Old High German heimōti, heimuoti, from Proto-West Germanic *haimōdi, from a derivative of Proto-Germanic *haimaz (home) + *-ōt(i)-, expressing a state or condition. Equivalent to huam +‎ -at. Cognate with German Heimat.
