intradirective verb

English edit

Noun edit

intradirective verb (plural intradirective verbs)

  1. (grammar) An intransitive verb in which the subject both actively performs and undergoes the action, as in verbs of motion such as walk, go, fly.
In "I walked to the store", the verb 'walk' is intradirective, as the person undergoing the action is myself; in "I walked the dog" I no longer undergo the action, and the verb is transitive.
