Etymology edit

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-y(i/u)p. Cognate with Burmese အိပ် (ip, to sleep), Jingpho yup (to sleep), Khroskyabs jə̂v (to sleep) and Nuosu ꀀ (it, to sleep, to reside). Compare with Lhao Vo yhab , Zaiwa yvap, and Luxi Achang ʑit⁵⁵.
