kīņḑõļkū

LivonianEdit

EtymologyEdit

From kīņḑõļi (teary (eyed)) +‎ (month). The meaning of kīņḑõl is either a tear or a candle. In the adjectival form, with a soft ⟨ļ⟩, it means specifically "teary (eyed.)" February the 2nd is sometimes observed as "Candle day" (with roots in Latvian mythology), perhaps kīņḑõļ is a variant of kīņḑõl in the candle sense, not a shortening of kīņḑõļi.
