editInherited from Ottoman Turkish قامچی (qamçı, “whip”), from Proto-Turkic *kamčï (“whip”), a derivation from *kam- (“to beat, strike down”). Cognate with Karakhanid قَمْجٖى (qamčï̄, “whip”), قَمّاقْ (qammāq, “to beat”).
