Maybe from Proto-Celtic *kamb- (crooked, bent), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ḱamb-, *(s)kamb- (crooked). Compare Latin cambiō, which has its origin in Celtic, and the descendants English change, French changer, Italian cambiare, Portuguese cambiar and Spanish cambiar.
