From Proto-Finnic *korkëduc. Equivalent to korkea (“high”) + -uus (“-ness”) + apophonic adaption.

- height, altitude (distance of something above the ground or some other chosen level)
- headroom (vertical measurement, top to bottom, for example for clearance under a bridge)
- Short for äänenkorkeus (“pitch (of sound)”).
